artist statement

Wild One is an installation of photo-realistic composites that utilizes intrinsic characteristics of photography and digital editing to illustrate the adventurous moments of a toddler. By combining multiple images of my child as he makes his way about a scene, I am able to illustrate how something that could seem so mundane can be quickly turned insane by the playfulness of a toddler.

Movement is essential in the development of my child. Whether it be in the backyard, or in the bathtub, he is constantly moving, taking in the world from every angle possible within a single setting. The concept of sitting within a single spot in a tub is not part of his day. The ball, the boat, and the shower curtain each require its own divided attention. A cabinet must be explored, as it quickly becomes a hidden cavern in the eyes of a toddler. Every cup, every bowl, has the potential of being more than what it appears. With this constant need for exploration comes an illusion of multiples as my child quickly moves throughout his day.
